The CAA has thanked the operators and airlines for all their help following the
collapse of XL Leisure. After such a turbulent week for the travel industry
which left over 80'000 passengers stranded it was good to see everybody working
together.
By Friday 19th September, over 46,000
XL
Leisure clients were returned to the
UK
by “Operation Dynamo”, coordinated from the CAA’s offices in London.
In the first week 199 flights were arranged from 40 overseas destinations, and
this week 38,000 XL customers remained in resorts due to finish their holidays
as planned.
In just seven days after the collapse, the CAA's helpline had received 84,000
telephone calls from customers.
Director of consumer protection Richard Jackson said, "I want to thank the
industry, particularly the operators’ overseas reps with whom we have worked,
for all their extensive efforts on the ground over the course of the past week.
“Their important contribution has greatly helped the smooth repatriation for
the vast majority of XL holidaymakers and allowed many others to complete their
holidays."
The flights currently organised by the CAA are from Alicante, Malaga (Spain);
Palma (Majorca); Athens, Chania, Corfu, Heraklion, Kalamata, Kavala, Kefalonia,
