September 07 | Airlines
looking to test Biofuels |
Air New Zealand have said that
they are to begin testing Biofuels on a Boeing 747 flight from
Auckland. They are hoping to use the Biofuel in one of the
four Rolls Royce engines with the other three engines using normal
aviation fuel. The flight will carry no passengers.
Pie in the sky
Air New Zealand plan to do the test at the end of next year or
early 2009. Chief executive Rob Fyfe who claimed Biofuel
seemed like 'pie in the sky' only a few years ago said, "Air New Zealand is keen to encourage research into
alternative fuels and wants to work hand-in-hand with industry
partners and the New Zealand Government on promoting this type
of activity".
Virgin Atlantic are also keen to try our the new 'Green'
fuel. A spokesman has told the BBC that testing is already
underway but they are still to decide which type of Biofuel to
use. Both have claimed its not a race and that the whole
industry are working together for a more environmental way of
travelling.
Pollution
This is hopefully a big step forward for cleaner skies and
finally some good news from the airlines with the recent events
and protests regarding pollution.
