October 07 | UK
and Singapore agree to open skies |
An open skies airline agreement
has been made between Britain and Singapore which will allow one
another's national airlines free access to their markets.
In a first of its kind for the UK, Singapore airlines will be
able to pick up passengers from the UK and fly them to domestic
or worldwide destinations, including the United States. UK
carriers such as British Airways and Virgin will have the same privileges
for flights starting from Singapore.
Singapore already have a similar agreement with the United Arab
Emerates.
"This is indeed a trail-blazing agreement concluded between
two forward looking countries that share a common objective of
promoting free competition", said Singapore's Transport
Minister, Mr Raymond Lim.
The new agreement will start from March 2008.
