June 08 | Fuel
surcharges on the increase as airlines struggle |
Two more airlines have
increased their fuel surcharges as the spiraling cost of oil
continues to rise.
Flyglobespan and Virgin Atlantic are the latest airlines to add
an extra surcharge to flights.
IATA have dramatically claimed that this is a very turbulent
time for the airlines industry and that it could end in an era
of big losses and bankruptcies.
IATA director Giovanni Bisignani said that the increasingly
burdensome cost of fuel is combining with unfavourable global
economic conditions to create what he described as a
"perfect storm" for the industry.
Oil prices hit a record high of $135.09 (£68.86) during May.
