This summer looks to be the wettest ever
|
The Met Office has reported in its
initial figures that this summer has been the wettest ever since records
began in 1914.
This year is set to beat the previous wettest in 1956, recording 358.5mm
of rain compared to 1956's of 358.4mm. The current figures are
still only provisional and the final results may conclude that is was
only the 2nd wettest.

The above table shows previous records for each country compared with

The Met Office's head of forecasting, Keith Groves has said, "These
figures confirm what most people have already been thinking - this
summer has been very wet and very disappointing for most."
The incredible amount of rain we have had this year has been caused by
the position of the jet stream over the Atlantic. This year the
stream had taken a position much more southern than normal which brought
depressions across the UK.
