Gatwick
remind passengers about liquids at check in
|
A Gatwick Airport spokesman has sent
out a reminder to passengers regarding the amount of liquids you can
take onto the plane.
The lack of knowledge regarding the amounts allowed have been blamed for
the large queues and delays at airports recently.
The spokesman said, "We have signs in the airport but the message
has got to get through before people get there. It might be the
government’s job or maybe it’s something for travel agents."
Passengers can take one piece of hand luggage onto the aircraft at a
size of 50cm x 40cm x 20cm. You can also take 100 milliliters of
liquids onto the plane that has to be passed through security in a clear
see through bag.
What is classed as liquids?
Items currently classed under the liquids restrictions are -
- All drinks, including water, soups & syrups
- Oils, creams, lotions, perfumes, mascara, make up etc
- Pressurised containers & sprays like shaving foam and deodorants
- Pastes including toothpaste
- Gels including shower gel & hair gel
- Any other watery solutions or liquid consistency
Because of the confusion at airports and extra costs, alot of airports
are now charging for the once free clear see through bags.
Luton airport has machines dispensing 4 bags for £1. A spokesman
from the airport defended the decision to charge by saying, "We
have had a huge increase in costs, with extra security and staff, so
there comes a point where there has to be a cost associated."
East Midlands charge 50p for 2 and Southampton are charging 20p per
bag. There is no problem for passengers being prepared and
bringing along their own see through bags for any liquids they will be
taking through security.
