Ryanair have been given a slap on the
wrist by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) due to the airlines
latest advert being misleading.
The advert claims that flying with Ryanair is both cheaper and faster
than Eurostar for travellers wanting to travel from London to Brussels.
The ASA point out that the advert doesn't take into account the distance
or cost from the city centre to the airport.
'Where's Charleroi?'
The ASA have a point as flying with Ryanair would take you from Stansted (25 miles outside the
centre of London) to Charleroi (28 miles outside Brussels).
"We considered that many readers would not be aware of the
locations of the airports and additional costs incurred," the ASA
stated.
'Stupid'
Ryanair defended themselves by saying that "no stupid ruling"
from the ASA could hide the success of the airline and "Only the
very rich or the very slow waste their time on Eurostar," the
airline claimed.
They also were found guilty of making inaccurate claims that their
flights were more punctual than Eurostar's service.
The ruling forced Ryanair to remove all the claims from its advert.
Its not the first time the airline has had to remove its adverts as only
last month the ASA reprimanded them regarding carbon dioxide emissions,
as the advert breached rules on truthfulness as it took its figures from
worldwide rather than the UK emissions.
