Aer Lingus pilots to strike

Next week will be bad news for Aer Lingus passengers due to a 48 hour strike due to start on Tuesday.

The pilots have arranged to strike due to the dispute regarding the airlines plans to operate a new route from Belfast to London.

The route will be introduced as a switch from the Shannon service but problems started when employees found out that the pay structure would be less than in Southern Ireland.

Northern Ireland union Unite's regional secretary said, "We will not allow any employer to impose second-class terms and conditions on workers at Belfast International.”

Aer Lingus has warned passengers that they would face disruption but have also suggested passengers due to travel on Tuesday or Wednesday can change their flight date or destination free of charge via their website or telephone.
