Traveling independently is more popular than packages
|
A new report out by Mintel has
discovered that the public are more likely to travel to Spain on holiday
by booking there flights and accommodation separately than booking a
package holiday via the traditional tour operators.
Mintel's report which was based on a consumer survey of over 2000 people
between 2004-2006 discovered that now 59% of holidaymakers in Spain had
bought their flights and accommodation separate.
The massive impact of the internet and low cost airlines are giving
consumers a much easier and cheaper way to book their holiday. Independent
Travel Agents are also making use of these tools by offering packages
much cheaper than through the main Tour Operators such as Thomsons,
Airtours and Thomas Cook.
Spain as a destination has also been affected as more people are
trying other cheaper destinations now available to them like Turkey and
Eastern European countries.
It also seems to be losing touch with the younger generation as in 2005
it was the most popular destination for 20 to 24 year olds and now that
age group are the least likely to travel there!
