Croatian
fires are no threat to tourists

A Croatian specialist tour operator has
informed the travel trade that the forest fires that ravaged the
outskirts of Dubrovnik over last weekend are of no threat to the
tourists staying in the city.
The sales and marketing director of Holiday Options, Rupert Diggins,
said that the company has not had to evacuate any of their clients from
Dubrovnik and has received no cancellations for holidays coming up.
"Nobody is in danger at all", he said. "We've heard there
is even a wet day forecast later in the week."
Diggins also added that the incident highlighted the benefits of booking
holidays through traditional tour operators rather packaging it up separately.
He said: “If our holidaymakers had packaged it themselves, they would
have been on their own but our team has been going to hotels, keeping in
touch with the local officials and in some cases the fire and safety
people. They’ve just been really on the ball.”
Firefighters in the area reported that the fires are under control on
Monday night.
