Olsen
ship given clean bill of health

Black Watch, the Fred Olsen Cruise
Lines ship at the centre of a Legionnaire’s disease scare, has been
given a clean bill of health to sail.
Just two passengers were confirmed as
having the disease of seven who fell ill during a cruise in northern
Europe. Of the other five, two remain in hospital undergoing tests in
Sweden and the UK.
Black Watch returned to Dover two days
early on Monday and underwent a thorough cleansing. Tests carried out by
local health authorities have so far not found any infection onboard the
ship, although some tests are still being carried out.
Marketing director Nigel Lingard said
the cruise line had prepared for the worst possible scenario, that the
infection was onboard the ship, although this now seems unlikely. The
two passengers who caught the disease had been on the same shore
excursion and it is possible it was brought on the ship.
Lingard said there had only been two
cancellations for Wednesday’s cruise to the Mediterranean but the
cabins had been resold.
All passengers on the curtailed cruise
have been offered 25% refund.
