The Dubai based Jumeirah Group has been
given the go-ahead for its landmark skyscraper in central London.
The 175 metre high, 52 storey glass
tower, which will be built by the Beetham Organisation, was granted
planning permission by Southwark Council this week.
The Jumeirah Hotel at Beetham Tower
will feature 261 rooms and suites, several restaurants and bars, a
ballroom, a range of meetings facilities, spa and health suite.
The hotel will be part of a mixed use
development in the tower, situated on the south of Blackfriars Bridge.
Beetham Tower will also house 64
apartments and penthouses as well cafes, restaurants, shops, and a two
storey rooftop decking with panoramic views over London. Developers hope
to open the tower in 2011.
This could be a big boost for the city with Olympic games getting closer
and closer.
Jumeirah Group executive chairman
Gerald Lawless said: “With planning permission now approved, we look
forward to working with developers to ensure the delivery of this
tremendous project in time for the London 2012 Olympic Games.”
Beetham Organisation chairman Hugh
Frost added: “We are delighted to hear that planning permission has
been approved with an almost unanimous vote. We see the tower standing
as a new landmark for London and prime symbol of London’s maturing
skyline set to attract more visitors to the South Bank area.”
