Abta expects OFT to take hardline on airlines that hide extras

Abta expects the Office of Fair Trading to take a “robust” approach to any airlines not advertising inclusive prices after next Tuesday.

A deadline of July 31 was set for all travel firms to include all costs in advertised prices, but Ryanair claims the rule is unfair.

Abta chief executive Mark Tanzer said: “As the Office of Fair Trading’s final deadline for inclusive pricing rapidly approaches, it’s great to see that easyJet are now toeing the line, leaving only one major airline conspicuous in their continued failure to comply.”

The association’s newsletter continued: “We expect to see the OFT take a robust position if any airlines, or non-Abta travel companies, fail to comply.

“Abta will be monitoring the advertising of those companies and of Abta members to ensure that transparency and fair competition is achieved.”
