Airlines to sell A380 tickets on eBay
|
Singapore Airlines is to auction seats
for its first superjumbo flight on eBay with all proceeds going to
charity.
The carrier is the Airbus A380’s
launch customer, and took the decision to offer the seats on the
Singapore to Sydney return flight to the highest bidders after a surge
in requests.
The flight is due to take place in
October.
“The first commercial A380 flight
will be a moment in aviation history. It will be a once-in-a-lifetime
experience, on an aircraft that will mark a new chapter in air
travel,” said Singapore Airlines chief executive Chew Choon Seng.
“While we will celebrate the event,
we also wish to remember the people who are less fortunate and can be
assisted by the charities to which all the proceeds will go.”
The proceeds from the flight will be
split between charities in Singapore, Sydney and the cross-border aid
organization Medecins Sans Frontieres.
