Packages
should warn about risk of hurricanes

Agents tailor-making packages to the
Caribbean or Florida this summer should warn customers about the risk of
hurricanes and even check with hotels that they have contingency plans
in place.
The warning comes from health and
safety specialist Check Safety First following predictions that the
region could be facing a tough hurricane season.
Experts have predicted 17 “named
storms” this year, up from an average of 11 and five more than last
year.
Check Safety First said that tour
operators were often in a “better position” as their safety checks
would tend to include provision for hurricanes.
But chief executive Mark Harrington
said agents needed to ensure that hotels they were dealing with had
taken appropriate measures.
“It might not necessarily be a full
audit, but agents need to ask whether hotels have a member of staff who
is trained to deal with the situation, and what measures they have put
in place if guests have to be evacuated,” he said.
