Brazil
plane crash 'kills 200'
|
Up to 200 people are believed to have
died after an Airbus A320 skidded off the end of a runway in wet
conditions in Sao Paolo.
The aircraft was operated by Brazilian
carrier Tam and was carrying 170 passengers and six crew when it skidded
across a road and into a fuel depot.
Rescuers said no passengers could have
survived, and more people on the ground had also been killed.
Fears had previously been raised about
the safety of the runway at Congonhas airport in wet conditions, and at
one stage larger aircraft were banned from using it.
That decision was overturned on appeal.
Congonhas is a domestic airport.
Flights from the UK use the main Guarulhos International airport.
