Thomas Cooks/MyTravel to axe 730 jobs
|
Thomas Cook/My Travel has confirmed
that 730 jobs will be axed as it closes 151 shops.
The closures include 67 Thomas Cook
shops and 84 Going Places outlets, leaving a network of 806 shops. The
majority will be run as Thomas Cook, with 70 branded as Going Places.
It is expected that the majority of
outlets will close before the end of October.
The 730 jobs expected to go are part of
the original 2,500 – 2,800 proposed job cuts.
All employees were visited by
management yesterday and given details of potential redeployment
opportunities.
John Bloodworth, UK and Ireland chief
executive, said: “Good sales people are hard to find and are key to
our ongoing success. We will be offering all those affected redeployment
and relocation opportunities. We will also be discussing the opportunity
of homeworking, an area of our sales business that we are keen to
further develop.”
A statement issued today said the
closures “conclude the review of the network as part of the
company’s integration process, however the size and shape of its
network will continue to evolve in response to consumer buying
habits.”
