The Nepal Tourism authorities are hoping that the new Kingfisher Airlines flight
that starts on the 22nd April between the UK and Kathmandu will help drive down prices on the route and revive interest ahead of the Nepal Tourism Year 2011 campaign.
The Kingfisher Airlines daily service, which has a connection at Delhi, means the Indian carrier is the fifth major airline on the UK-Nepal route, along with Jet Airways, Etihad, Gulf and Qatar.
Nepal Tourism UK spokesman Raja Giri said prices for the UK to Kathmandu journey rose as high as £900 a couple of years ago, but had been coming down as more carriers started operating on the route.
He said Kingfisher’s arrival should help hold prices steady at around the £500 mark, making the country more accessible to the
mid market adventure tourists who made up the bulk of its UK customers, travelling independently or using operators such as Exodus, Bales or Saga.
He also said the extra capacity and lower prices would also help as the country launched its Tourism Year 2011 campaign, starting in January.
