Glasgow Airport Delays Continue
|
Passengers travelling from Glasgow
International airport have been warned to expect severe delays this week
following the weekend’s terrorist attack.
The airport reopened 24 hours after the
incident but the chaos is set to continue all week.
The incident happened on the
airport’s busiest day of the year, as Scottish schools closed for the
summer holidays the previous day.
Hundreds of Scots have been left
stranded at nearby hotels as they wait for information on when their
flights will depart.
Passengers have also been told to check
that their flight is definitely departing from the airport before
setting out.
Precautions are being taken at airports
across the country after the UK government raised its security level to
critical.
The vehicle approach to Edinburgh
Airport was still closed yesterday as a precaution, though flights were
not affected by the Glasgow incident.
Prestwick Airport in Ayrshire, around
45 minutes from Glasgow, said it was in full operation.
A spokesman from airport owner BAA said
staff were doing their “utmost” to get back on schedule.
BAA said car drop-off and pick-up at
other airports was “restricted”, and urged passengers to use public
transport to minimise disruption. Those planning to drive friends or
relatives to airports should use car parks rather than designated
drop-off areas.
